FOLLOW ME
Read Luke 10:25-37.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan raises three key
issues: our GIFTS, our ABILITIES and SERVING. As in the cover story
'Follow Me' we need to identify our gifts, assess our abilities and then serve.
GIFTS
Read Luke 19:11-27. We are expected to use our God-given
gifts. Everything you can do and do well is a gift. It may be the gift of
compassion or the ability to work with your hands. If we don't use our
gifts they will be taken away (v.24).
ABILITIES
Read Exodus 28:1-14.
We have all been given abilities that set us apart
from others (v.3). No matter what our physical capabilities or limitations
are we have a talent that can be used for God's work. Those 65 people in
the cover story could cook, wait on tables and clean (yes, they are all
abilities).
Read Exodus 35:4-35.
Abilities need to be developed. Moses asked people
with abilities to help build the tabernacle.
Read Deuteronomy 32:48 to 33:29.
Our abilities can make a
contribution. All gifts are need to complete the whole. This is explained
in -
1 Corinthians 12:12-30.
The gifts or abilities listed here may have been
those applicable and obvious when Paul wrote that letter. But today that
list could include almost every kind of human activity. What do you see as
your particular gift or abilitity and do you have the opportunity to use
it? No - then can you create that opportunity?
Read Acts 6:1-7.
Those people in the cover story saw the need and used
their abilities.
SERVING
Read Matthew 5:1-12.
Serving others distinguishes us as Christians.
Read Matthew 20:20-34.
Serve with humility.
