The U.S. Christian Martial Arts Association was founded in 1991 by Tang Soo Do Master Instructor, Jerry L. Wiles. The purpose in creating the C.M.A.A. was to provide a Christian environment in which believers in Jesus Christ could practice and learn to defend themselves and their families with the art of Tang Soo Do karate. As the Association grew, its doors were opened to also include the arts of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.
These three styles are known for their rigorous training, strong discipline and dedication to self-improvement through goal setting achievements. It is these qualities, along with Christian values and leadership that make up the structure of the Christian Martial Arts Association.
The C.M.A.A. does not entertain or tolerate New Age symbolism, philosophies, or any Eastern Mysticism. Instead you will find Biblical foundations such as prayer at the beginning and end of each class. Although the C.M.A.A. is a Christian organization, our membership is not restricted. The Christian Martial Arts Association has proven to be an effective and unique avenue for Christian outreach and Youth Evangelism.
The C.M.A.A. is designed to support the Christian martial arts school with rank certification and in-depth training of instructors. Each student of a school that is certified with the CMAA is also a member of the C.M.A.A.
