(Note: A brother who follows Scriptora sent along some materials culled from the Internet about Reiki and its practices. These included a short poem about its ethical principles and a longer article on its history by a Reiki participant. The comments below are mine.
If you want to judge Reiki for yourself, explore their Web site. Do so with caution and keep in mind that the power of seducing spirits is most real. This is especially the case with Reiki, which falsely claims Christian roots and heritage and appeals directly to Christians as a spirituality presumably compatible with our faith.)
In confirmation and extension of the earlier discussion (see "From" below), Reiki is explicitly centered around the so-called recovery of "Christian" healing powers and principles from the world's sanctuary of occult Buddhist practice, Tibet.
After studying Tibetan Sanscrit writings, Reiki's founder (who professed to be a Christian) fasted for 21 days. On the final day, he was penetrated (that is, possessed) by a light-giving spiritual power which corresponded exactly to the symbols within the Tibetan Sanscrit materials.
Today, Reiki practitioners are taught to transmit that power (so-called "Universal Life Force Energy") person to person (indeed, it is declared that this is the way it is received, entirely in harmony with millenia-long transmission of occult power). The prime healing method appears to be the passing of hands over the ill victim. While many people (including, regrettably, deceived Christians) claim that such energy passing is neutral, it is not. It is, at best, derived from human soul power; at worst, from demonic entities.
To readers easily offended by straight-forward speech, I apologize for speaking bluntly. Unfortunately, Reiki is an archtypal example of a "doctrine of demons," as Paul spoke of to Timothy, warning him of end-time perils. While we must pray in hope for those who are deceived, it is folly to pretend that Christianity (that is, those who follow, in-deed, Jesus Christ) can co-exist with anti-Christ spirits. Reiki is an anti-Christ spirit.
