Testimony of Mark McGee

Author: Mark McGee

I read your site with interest tonight. I was lured into Zen Bhuddism through martial arts as a teenager. I became a Christian in my early 20s and stopped training because of difficulties I had with the new and old ways of thinking about life. I continued to practice the physical/self-defense aspects of martial arts, but not the philosophical/spiritual aspects.

Many of my early years as a Christian were spent in legalism. Studying God's Word eventually led me out of that into the sunshine of Grace and freedom as a believer. As our Lord said, the Truth will set us free.

I began studying martial arts again in my early 40s. It was a joy to train and study and eventually teach in the freedom God gives His children. We can enjoy physical movement and self-defense techniques based on what God has done for us and not have to include anything that does not come from Him. I am now in my early 50s and involved with several Christian martial arts groups. Two of my instructors are Christians and head up their own national organizations. We have seen many people come to Christ through these and other ministries. It is a joy to see what He will do through those committed to His Word and His Will.

Christians can be involved in martial arts and use them to reach others for Christ. I recommend a Christian environment for anyone interested in developing body, mind and spirit. It's great exercise and builds confidence while developing humility and an appreciation for Jesus Christ.

Thank you for this opportunity to share my testimony.

In Christ's Love and Grace,

Mark McGee
