Faith Fighters Martial Art System - Stratiotia Christou

The martial art taught in Faith Fighters for Christ is Stratiotia Christou. This is a young blended system based primarily in Okinawan styling with American Goju, Aikido, Budoshin Ju-juitsu, and Chinese Kenpo added to give a more comprehensive life-preservation system.

Martial arts schools are normally highly traditional. There has been and still are times when people who break from the traditions are disowned by the system and its leaders. Faith Fighters for Christ has broken from most of the oriental traditions that pervade most of the Eastern martial arts. Many of these traditions are linked directly to Eastern religions. There are a few traditions that we have maintained, but have removed those based on eastern religions.

The traditional martial arts school will have a variety of times when bowing is required and several forms of bowing. Most traditional classes require that the student learn the original language of the martial art being studied. Traditional schools also require a period of "meditation" at varying times in the class. For most martial arts, the titles for the instructors are carried throughout all contacts with the instructors. In many traditional schools the hierarchy of leadership is extremely ridged. These traditions we do not follow or have modified. We maintain courtesy bows to individuals, but have removed the bows to the class floor, pictures and flags; we have also deleted all the prostrate and kneeling bows. We have eliminated the original language from the class as much as possible only maintaining the use of terms without equivalent English and titles of respect like "Sensei". The title of Sensei is only to be used for instructors in our school when they are wearing the belt rank and not when they are in "street clothes". We do not practice traditional forms of meditation, but hold Bible study and prayer time in our class. We require students to request entry or exit from the class after line up is called and lining up by rank. The belt rank system is used for recognition in the martial arts community and the tying of the belt knot. These traditions are for class order and discipline.

Our students from white belt to black 3rd Dan are expected to learn an overall knowledge of physical techniques, Okinawan weaponry and basic swordsmanship, leadership, Bible knowledge and application, history of our art, self-control, and discipline. The overriding principle taught in these things is life preservation. We believe that God meant it when He said that we should not kill. We teach our students to preserve their lives, those who are with them, and the attacker's life. We have a responsibility to stop an attacker's sin against us. If we do nothing, then we participate in his sin. Only in the case of persecution of our faith in Jesus Christ do we encourage our students to do nothing. In doing so, we have a greater opportunity of ministry. Defense techniques should be done without vengeance or malice, but with firmness. Christians are not the soft "push-overs" the world depicts us to be. This is done through teaching the value of all human life to God and the great sacrifice He made for us.
