Christian Karate: Martial Art or Cult?

Author: David Kostinchuk

An individual observing a karate class could notice that the teaching techniques of the karate instructor are clearly different. In one class the training could be astute. The emphasis could be on technique, timing, speed, form, concentration and body conditioning. In another the training could lack this emphasis and the emphasis could be on religious indoctrination. One instructor keeps his religious views out of the training. Other instructors pursue their religious views and concentrate on the students accepting or even enforcing their religious views on the students. Why the difference? What could be the consequences of training that is heavily indoctrinated with religious dogma? Judging from advertising on the Internet, in recent years there has been a phenomenal expansion in the number of people practicing Christian Karate. This has even extended to the formation of large Christian organizations such as the "Gospel Martial Arts Union," "U.S. Christian Martial Arts Association" and "Karate For Christ." There are Christians who avow that traditional karate is demonic or, they believe that Christians might be influenced by other religions during their karate training. Other Christians see nothing wrong with practicing traditional karate. The purpose of this paper is to examine proliferation, selling tactics, ignorance and paranoia in reference to Christian Karate. (In addition cult tactics and influence that can be used by unethical church leaders, ministry leaders, instructors and the possible results that could occur from cult like conditioning and brainwashing using Christian Karate.) This could have a profound effect on society now and in the future. While many Christians who teach karate do not spread intolerance and hate there are some who use Christian Karate to spread intolerance and hate toward members of society, who practice other religions. One should be aware that there are many fanatical religious zealots, who mix religion and karate to spread their intolerance and hate toward members of other Christian denominations and non-Christian religions. People considering enrolling, or enrolling their children should read up on karate and other martial arts before they enroll themselves or their children. They should question if the instructor mixes religion with karate. You must think of your children's future welfare. The instructor could have a hidden agenda. Besides the cost of lessons the child could suffer psychological damage? Proliferation Methods Sports can be a very useful tool by evangelist zealots to proselytize members from different Christian groups or even non-Christian religions such as Islam and Hinduism. http://webp1305.ntx.net/newletters.html Sport events attract a very large number of people especially men and teenagers. Athletic arenas attract large numbers of people who may or may not be unbelievers or who might not attend a church or ministry. Other sports events and organizations are used besides karate, such as: CWF: Christian Wrestling Federation and Figure Skaters For Christ. One well known traveling evangelistic karate team uses karate to evangelize is sponsored by the "Bob Jones University" (a Christian university) Often feats of strength can be used to give the message that the people doing the demonstrations are superior in strength through God given power emphasizing their superiority over others. In the article "Tool for Christian Evangelism or Zen Buddhism? Biblical Discernment Ministries - 4/92 stated: "On the cover of Bob Jones University's Spring 1992 issue of the BJU Review is a picture of black belt karate master and senior at BJU, Jim Pitts, in full karate garb, Bible open, giving the "invitation," while the rest of the members of BJU's "Champions for Christ karate team" are kneeling in prayer by their cinder-block bricks. On the inside cover is a picture of Mr. Pitts breaking four bricks with his right arm, while the other team members are watching, with Bibles open. (Breaking' Bricks for Jesus?)" http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Psychology/karate.htm Showmanship One part of showmanship to sell the individual teaching Christian karate is the tough guy image. "Warriors for Christ?" Calmetta Coleman in her article "Christian Come-On: Karate Attracts a Flock" Wall Street Journal, October 28,1999 stated that: "More karate clergy are clinching their black belts than ever, chopping for Christ, kicking, blocking, flipping and punching their way into churches everywhere" " Have you seen some of these Christian evangelists on television? The Martial Ministries are intended to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Christian way of life. "No more sniveling, pantywaist, milquetoast, mama's boy clergy guys, or petticoat clergy girls who get sand kicked up into their faces. We're talking martial-arts-ministry. " Getting a "Kick" out of Jesus" http://www.fpcvalpo.org/Sermons/Sermon-8-27-00.htm Some charismatic church or ministry leaders teaching "Christian Karate" realize the impression of martial artists have an on the public mind set. Diane Divoky stated in an article:" Karate clergy are preaching and teaching at a time when Jacki Chan, Chuck Norris, Chow Young Fat and martial arts action figures have penetrated minds of both young and old with a flurry of flying fists, quick kicks and good guy righteousness." "Karate clergy are using the tools available to them to reach children and adults with the message of Jesus Christ." (Divoky, Diane. "Capital 'prayer warriors' fight myriad demons with vigor" The Sacramento Bee / Tuesday, September 25, 1984.) Often the church or ministry leaders will try to show their members or followers that they are in some way associated with these martial arts figures, either physically or psychologically. (The good guy impression.) Often children and even adults like to fantasize being one of these action figures or similar to one of these action figures. This enables the church or ministry leader to promote the belief "we "instead of "us and them." Some of the demonstrations could be compared to the showmanship on the WWF. Bible Discernment ministries stated this in a nutshell. "One might recall John Jacobs and the Power Team, a charismatic, brick-breaking/baseball bat-smashing/chair-busting team of strength exhibitors, popularized in the late-1980s by televangelists Jan & Paul Crouch of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Even though one might find it difficult to see how the Power Team's so-called "skill" could or would be used by the Holy Spirit to draw the lost to Christ". Biblical Discernment Ministries - /http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Letter/v1n4-4.htm Ignorance and Paranoia Often the term "mysticism" is used to describe martial arts, as a means to sell the concept of Christian karate. If someone uses mysticism as a term to describe karate, I am immediately suspicious of their reasoning to present, especially if karate is presented as: anti biblical, demonic, satanic, or even as an evil menace against Christianity. http://www.demonbuster.com/z14lod.html Some of the misconceptions of karate are mediation, bowing, and the use of the word sensei. (Sensei is a Japanese term used to signify teacher or instructor) In my own experience I regard something as mystic if I am uneducated about that subject. I realize that if I am educated and knowledgeable about the subject than it is not a mystery. I will explain these rituals in an effort to demystify common misconceptions. If a person is familiar with Asian culture they understand that bowing is the same as shaking hands upon greeting someone, saluting the flag or a woman curtsying when greeting a member of royalty as a matter of respect, in fact men are expected to bow. Could you imagine refusing to shake hands with your boss because it is demonic? I suspect you would be fired. If as a member of the military would refuse to salute the flag I would imagine the Military Police would be on the scene very fast. This could be a fast dishonorable discharge or a quick trip to a psychiatric ward. Refusing to bow or curtsy to a member of royalty would be unthinkable. Would anyone equate a salute, handshake or curtsy as a ritual, honoring God? Bowing to a sensei shows respect to the sensei. Bowing to a fellow student shows respect to a fellow student. Bowing to the flag (a symbol of your country) shows respect to the country. While bowing is considered a form of worship in Christianity, if a person is knowledgeable about Asian customs he would not equate bowing as a ritual showing worship to God or paying homage to god, but rather a social ritual. The word "meditation" has a very popular misconception in the west as restricted to Zen. Often a person mediating assumes the full-lotus-position, while doing prayer. While kneeling is associated with prayer or mediation and the full-lotus-position can be used as a religious ritual in Zen, it does not mean the same thing in the martial arts. One must remember that in Asia kneeling or sitting on the floor is done due to the fact that in Asia chairs were not popularly used. The lotus position is used a way to improve concentration, in addition the position will strengthen the back, abdominal area and the legs. After assuming this position, in time, it becomes very painful (try it.) When a person is in this position they can become aware of intense pain, resulting in the desire to move. One wants to learn to not allow the pain in the legs, back or stomach to affect the concentration of the individual. Hence the statement "clear one's mind." This is a far cry from some type of ungodly worship by pagan Buddhists that could be inferred by some Christians that are trying to promote Christian Karate. In the west the word, "concentration" is often used by coaches and athletes. Athletes are taught to concentrate on the ball, concentrate on the dive and concentrate on the throw in the javelin throw. In the east the words "clear one's mind is used." In competition if one thinks of winning, losing, pain or the risk of injury the mind will become cluttered, which could lead to defeat. \ Erwin de Castro, B. J. Oropeza and Ron Rhodes stated in, Enter the Dragon Part Two "meditation" is not necessarily harmful or anti-biblical, it nevertheless should be distinguished from biblical meditation. Scripture defines meditation in terms of the believer objectively contemplating and reflecting on God and His Word " "Additionally, we must note that not all martial arts instructors interpret meditation in the same way. For some, meditation involves nothing more than putting aside, passing thoughts and other distractions that would otherwise cause personal disruption during practice sessions. "Meditation" of this variety is generally devoid of mysticism and differs little from the focused concentration of an athlete getting ready to shoot a basketball from the free-throw line or a golfer preparing to putt on the green." http://www.summit.org/Resources/EntertheDragonTwo.htm The minister who uses the methods described above realizes that his target population is often uneducated about other societies and cultures. Realistically, if a person thinks cross culturally or of different societies has and has some knowledge in anthropology and sociology, the actions described above would not be mystic or anti-Christian. Education leads to a greater understanding about other societies in respect to religion and its related aspects. Mass Media Mass media and movies from the entertainment industry promote a martial art/religious connection. Ben Williams stated:
"Many movies and media presentations try to represent Karate as something bordering on a religion. This is nonsense. There are no spooky or mystical connotations to legitimate Karate. True it can tend to build good character and spiritual fortitude, but then so can football under a good coach. True also is the fact that the power of concentration is given much importance in the martial arts, but so is it in piloting an airplane. All persons have opportunities to improve their mind. It must be remembered that all martial arts had their origin in life and death experiences, and that they developed in societies whose religions were different from our own. It is only natural that those who faced death so frequently would have sought comfort in the religion of their fathers. But there are no necessary connections between any eastern religion and Karate. Furthermore, anyone who claims that Karate training leads to mystical or supernatural powers is simply a fraud, a demoniac, or a good old-fashioned nut. It is interesting to note, that many people, find that the practice of Karate can be a small, practical part of life as a Christian."
Williams, Ben. Traditional Karate. http://members.aol.com/lannyl7/homepage/LannyKarate.html Christian Karate and Cultic Practices There has been a large number of Christian karate schools that are in commercial karate schools or located in various ministries and universities in the United States and Canada. There are Christian karate organizations that will admit anyone who claims to be teaching Christian karate. (It should be emphasized that some of these organizations refer to their members as "Christian Karate," even though they accept people from many styles of the martial arts.) The purpose of the second part of this article is to give the readers an overview of cult practices that can be used by an unethical ministry or minister using martial arts as a tool to keep members of the cult in line or as an evangelical tool. This is an immense topic. If a person wants to understand the dangers of Christian karate it is essential to understand the dynamics of cults. For the reader who is more interested in cult formation and practices, there are some excellent articles posted by the American Family Foundation. A person must realize that there are two basic types of methods to achieve goals utilized by cults using the martial arts. 1. Martial art clubs can use religion as an aid to brainwash and condition the members into following the instructor's whims and wishes. 2. Martial arts can be used as an evangelical tool to induce members into a cult resulting in further conditioning and brainwashing. Some martial arts schools border on cult behavior. Others practice cult behavior. Wayne Muromoto stated; ("The final, horrible marriage of religious cults and martial arts cults, may be in the works even as I write. Reports in magazines and the rumor among my US Mainland contacts have it that a major cultish religious group is planning to buy out many shopping mall chain martial arts groups, using them as fronts to recruit young members into its religion. Then the horrible affair between cultish martial arts and religious cults will be truly consummated.") "Martial arts are like religions in a sense that their structure and system is very open to abuse and the development of cultish behavior or greedy chicanery." Muromoto, Wayne. Real or Fake? Is Your Martial Arts School Legitimate? http://www.koryubooks.com/library/wmuromoto4.html A karate instructor can teach the students, under his tutelage that they have to be mentally, spiritually and physically superior to be the best. However this can lead to problems. Once the students accepts the instructors leadership role it is easy for the instructor to persuade the students that in order to be superior they must adapt his religious beliefs. Unfortunately this can lead to the instructors deviant behavior being accepted by his flock http://www.rickross.com/reference/S_Groups7.html A charismatic religious leader abusing his authority can also condition the members of his flock to accept his teachings unconditionally by using bible quotes to enforce his position of authority. Believing the bible or God has given the leader the right to enforce his teachings can be very dangerous when the victims give the leader total acceptance of his beliefs and total obedience to his commitments and commands. Brainwashing and Conditioning Behavior modification has made astonishing advances since the pioneering efforts of B.F. Skinner one of the propionate psychologists of behavior modification in the U.S. Research by modern scientists has introduced powerful mind control techniques to the extent that it can take apart a person and completely introduce a completely new person to the extent of cult martyrs and terrorists. http://www.factnet.org/ One method of a minister trying to condition and brainwash people is total or near total isolation from mainstream society allowing the minister to induce tunnel vision into the victim. The minister is right, everyone else is wrong, an agent of the devil or is influenced by Satan, etc. Bible study, regular service time, as well as other activities three or more times a week. Additional meetings or services could increase times where the individual is isolated from family members and mainstream society enabling the minister to successfully ingrain his beliefs in the psyche of his members. The ministry using the martial arts to induce hate against whom they see as non-believers or false believers consists of a variety of techniques to condition and program their members in their evangelistic endeavors. Unfortunately under the tutelage of the instructor family break up could result. A few of these techniques are listed below. 1. The church or ministry can give free classes' especially if there is a desire to build up membership. 2. Acceptance or being overly friendly can be used to get the victim into accepting the group. Often called "Love Bombing" 3. The planned Isolation from friends and family members to reduce their influence. 4. Placing the victim on a high pedestal by giving them belts or making them instructors. In addition the instructors can be called the anointed ones. 5. Through brainwashing and conditioning, convince the students that they are in, "A war against false believers, agents of the devil, etc." 6. If children are the targets, home schooling is the ultimate tool for brainwashing and conditioning. 7. Total obedience. Case Study The biggest danger is with television evangelists or radio evangelists who reach millions of followers. Even though the percentage of pseudo-warriors is small compared to their audience the number of pseudo-warriors could easily reach into the thousands. There has been a large proliferation of television channels set up as special religious programs especially in western Canada. An example of this is the expansion of televangelist Willard Thiessen into central and western Canada. In July 2000 Thiessen was given the right to open a 24-hour religious broadcasting network (NowTV.) This allows NowTV to reach 2.2 million people in the lower mainland alone. In addition Thiessen plans to expand NowTV Canada wide. Cult build up can be very fast due to the high number of people being reached. Instructors with a minimal of martial arts training, influenced by the teachings of the cult, given authority by the leader and believing they are warriors for Christ can spread quickly among the target population as quoted on the Koinonia Fellowship of Martial Arts. "Pastors or ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ who are active in the ministry leadership or oversight of a club may be awarded an honorary degree of black belt (first dan) in recognition of their leadership and contribution." http://www.eph610.com/about_this_ministry/mission/our_vision_and_plan_for_ministry.htm 2 Sept. 2001 The televangelist Willard Thiessen and his staff of Trinity Television "IT'S A NEW DAY" was very effective in emphasizing complete obedience and alienating his staff member Usha Anderson from her husband and friends. Usha was a member of "River City Church" a cell located in Trinity Television's site. Usha was also forming a karate class on the site of Trinity Television's transmitter site located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The following are exerts from Usha"s email. Complete obedience: "Pastor Bob also abmonished the people about what God has called them to do. And it requires obedience no matter what it is. And for those who are feeling for a lack of God, that they need to go back to the last thing that He has asked them to do" "Audry said "That obedience to God is a must. And this was a very tough church to be in, because whatever God has called them to do, that is what they must do, that is what they will do." " And I was glad that they were being mean and tough with people" "But she feels that this church is small and unknown as it is, it is like a secret weapon that the Lord has for the city" (Audry is Willard Thiessen's daughter.} 23 June, 1998 Alienation from a friend: Melisa was Usha's friend when Usha worked at a call center. When Melissa rejected the invitation to join Preacher Bob's church, located in Trinity Television's transmitter site. Usha stated; Betty thinks I should avoid her." "And even as I am writing now, the Holy Spirit has just revealed something to me. Melissa is currently an agent of the devil. He speaks to her and guides her, whether or not she realizes it. So, when he wants a job done, he calls one of his agents to do whatever he needs" 20 August, 1998 Alienation from her husband: Usha mentioned in her e-mail that Betty Thiessen said," If Dave has greater brokeness he might turn closer God." Betty (Willard Thiessen's wife) was her Advisor and mentor. 18 Sept. 1998 "Pastor Bob said "The Lord wants to remove everything that has been a hindrance in your life" "He wants to go deeper with you" "He wants you to remove everything that tries to stand in the way of fulfilling your calling." Dave has really been a snare and obstacle in my pursuit of Jesus" Sun. Oct. 18, 1998. Pastor Bob is Bob Meisner, Willard's son-in-law. Dave was her husband at the time. Alienation and Children The consequences of brainwashing and conditioning children could be especially severe, if combined with home schooling or private schools that state God's law is above the laws of man. Martial arts, combined religious indoctrination and total isolation from mainstream society could lead to severe pathological problems among children. Unfortunately this type of alienation can become more profound to children. A combination of home schooling with the martial arts can have a deep psychological impact on children. The alienation described above deals with alienation of friends and relatives. Under home schooling this alienation can develop into religious intolerance toward a wider aspect of Canadian society. Usha Anderson and Willard Thiessen are proponents of home schooling. Two of these home schools are The School of Tomorrow using accelerated Christian education modules and the Alpha Omega home schooling program. Both of these home schooling bodies teach intolerance of other religions. Kostinchuk, David "School of Tomorrow" The effect of this intolerance upon children can be seen in an exert of a description of Usha's eight year old child's vision. "Satan was going down into the fire and also all the non-Christians, Muslims and Jews. That he was holding onto. All of these came down with Satan because they couldn't get away" 8 Sept.1998. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONING TO A MILITARISTIC VIEWPOINT Christian karate and mind control can be the first step toward having its practitioners adapt a militaristic viewpoint. Often over looked are the religious cults that see themselves at war with non-believers or false believers. Unfortunately some of the church or ministry leaders use techniques that emphasize pseudo warriors in a pseudo army. Emphasizing that we are in a constant battle "good verses evil" or "Satan verses God" easily justifies intolerance toward Christians of different denominations or non-Christians. When these cults dehumanize others with title of demon possessed or under demonic influence it is can a swift change to start teaching martial arts to pseudo-warriors in an army for Christ Slogans such as: " Warriors We are now uniformed for service in the army of our Lord. We bear His mark in our hearts, His fruits in our life. Our loins are girt in His Truth, our bodies covered by His Blood; our feet prepared to follow Him. We are prepared; at last we may go into battle boldly, with confidence in whom we serve. The war rages, and our weapons are prepared for us. Christian Support- Ministries http://www.mindspring.com/~commonersjan/shield.html Willard Thiessen also installs pseudo army, pseudo warrior doctrine into members of his ministry: "Deal aggressively with the enemy" "We're in a real war. We're dealing with a real enemy, who has many helpers, all in different ranks. And they probably earn their stripes by how many times they cause one of us to fall" New Day Report November 1998. Unfortunately the pseudo army, pseudo warrior also extends to young children as well as indicated by a description of a two- year program by a Christian Karate group. Young Warriors Discipleship Program "Young Warriors is a 5th & 6th Grade Discipleship Team focused on impacting their world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! These young warriors are dedicated to this cause for 2 years. During these 2 years they learn to develop their warrior skills in their prayer life, Bible study, and servanthood to their King! After their first year, these warriors will begin to disciple those coming into the kingdom. They will learn to develop their leadership skills with those they are training while at the same time being trained themselves. Thus, creating a new revolution of young warriors ready to storm the Gates of Hell! As their going through their training, we ask that you will continue to lift up these warriors to Christ. So that as they put on the full Armor of God, nothing shall come against them!" http://www.bethelcleburne.org/Young%20Warriors.html There is extensive media coverage of brainwashing of children by groups such as the Islamic Jihad and Hamas organizations installing hatred toward the West and Christians. This also applies to Christian groups who spread intolerance and hate. Put on the armor of God. (Allah) We are in God's (Allah's) army. We are in a war against the army of Allah. (God) The terminology is there; the only difference is the target group. Madeleine Albright stated that half of the terror organizations listed in 1998, were of religious origin. Shepard, Paul. (Violence in the Name of Religion Intensifies) Winnipeg Free Press 19 January, 2002. The Future Unfortunately among adults this can easily progress to an armed cult- ruled militia as the indoctrination, of intolerance and hate, is psychologically, progressively absorbed by the victims. Even monthly publications by smaller religious ministry cults can have a dangerous impact on their followers. Diane Divokyle stated in an article that there is a group called "Free Love Ministries" in Sacramento "see themselves as Warriors doing daily battle with the world and all its demons." Diane further stated:
"And battle is the right imagery. Jim Green, the ministry's leader, fills his monthly publication, "Battle Cry: Aggressive Christianity," with illustrations of swords, soldiers, knights in armor, battlements, grotesque demons, devils, lists of feared black arts and a barrage of scenes of violence and confrontation. Green, who does not think his lack of any theological training limits him in his role as spiritual leader, believes in a military approach to Christianity."

What about the person who is on the wacky side, who takes the following literally and physically, than applies it to real life?" This is the Call of a Warrior, that we willingly die to ourselves and live for our brethren in Christ. If we are not willing to die, we shall fail." Christian Support- Ministries The World Mon. Aug 27,2001 http://www.mindspring.com/~commonersjan/shield.html Some Christians are willing to kill other innocent people for their beliefs as shown by the killing of doctors who perform abortions or blowing up abortion clinics in Canada and the United States. These people not only think that people who do not follow their beliefs deserve to die but also are willing to carry out the act of murder. How far will they go?

A ministry can raise millions of dollars in operating funds legally or illegally as shown in an article in The Tampa Tribune by Micheal Flechter. U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore, sentenced the Paynes, leader of Greater Ministries "for helping orchestrate a pyramid scheme that took in $448-million from 1993 to 1999 and defrauded more than18,000 people." Brink, Graham. (Church Leader Gets 27 Years) St. Petersburg Times.) August 7, 2001 A portion of these funds can go toward arming the members of a ministry. Micheal Fechter listed the mass accumulation of arms in a newspaper article that the Greater Ministry had planned. "The arsenal offers a variety of ways to devastate an enemy. Start with 1,000 Claymore mines to thwart surreptitious intruders. Twenty pounds of C-4 plastic explosive - enough to destroy bridges and even blow up a multistory building. Then there are the grenade launchers, machine guns - some equipped with silencers - shotguns, sniper rifles, .357 Magnum handguns, 30 flak vests, two surveillance balloons and two radar systems with a 48-mile radius. A supply list calls for 1,000 M-79 propelled grenades, 1,000 hand grenades and 5,000 to 10,000 rounds for each type of gun, including 5,000 .50-caliber armor-piercing bullets." Fechter, MICHAEL. (Greater Ministries Planned Arsenal) The Tampa Tribune 9/5/99 Summary The state can sanction religious genocide. However, a clear distinction must be made between cults and state induced intolerance and hate based on religion. Cults are not sanctioned by the state. Often the cult operates in secrecy and the state is not aware of what is being done until the cult has become large enough to invite government attention. Often shocking events are brought out in the open, which prompts government scrutiny such as Waco and Jonestown. There is always a wave of popular martial arts of different styles. Movies seem to have a great influence on the type of martial arts chosen. Often home video tapes on "How To" seem to influence the latest martial arts fad. While all martial arts contribute to the physical well being of the practitioner, often resulting in instructors practicing well into their 60"s there is the danger that some unethical people will use the martial arts to abuse and brainwash people as shown in the above examples. In any sport instructors are held in high esteem, by adults and children. Karate seems to be the latest fad that evangelist are using to promote their church, ministry or beliefs. However here is a real danger that unethical karate instructors will use karate to brainwash their practitioners. Karate classes can be used to increase the victim's dependence on the group by decreasing contact with outsiders. This is especially true with children who can be persuaded to spend all their free time at the church or ministry. Especially vulnerable are children. A warped parent who is a member of a cult can also opt for home schooling for the children. In an extreme case this can lead to total isolation from other members of society outside the church or ministry allowing the parent or cult leader to totally condition and brainwash these children. Often the isolation from other members of society can lead to irrational intolerance and hate toward members of non-Christian religions or Christians of other denominations. However it is not the fault of the children who have no control of what the parent, other members or the leader of the cult, psychologically program them with. Society must be aware that the only difference between terrorist groups, future terrorist groups and cults is: funding, the ability to obtain weapons, level of sophistication in planning, and the ability to attract members and the scope of their operations. Parents must be aware of the possible long-range consequences on children that can result if the karate instructors are trained to promote their personal agenda of religious brainwashing and conditioning on children. In addition this same kind of conditioning and brainwashing can also have profound effects on adults. The only way to combat these techniques is through education of the public of the possible dangers of Christian karate that promotes intolerance and hate. Several questions must be raised. What future does society hold if children are taught intolerance and hate through the martial arts? How will these children function toward other members of society who practice other religions when they become adults? Will they grow up thinking religious bias, intolerance and hate is normal? What kind of family life will they have when they grow up? Will this intolerance and hate progress to the point where it will result in another Waco? Most important of all: 'Will these children become another statistic in another Waco or Jonestown incident?" Leaving society saying: "Where did we go wrong?" " How did it happen?"
