Research
indicates that ancient shipbuilding techniques were quite advanced.
This photo of one of Rod's models, with everything correctly to
scale, shows how the construction may have proceeded.
This
is just a small section of a huge structure. This is one of the
ends - the bow, or stern. Note the massive stem-post up the middle
(near the crane), and the multi-layered floor. Also quite clearly
visible are the three levels or decks, and the ladders used to access
them during construction. Part of the roof has been put in place.
The
Ark's dimensions were approximately 150 metres long, 25 metres wide,
and 15 metres high. The construction is fairly straightforward,
though - once you've done it once the next bit is much the same.
It's
still an awful lot of bits of wood to cut! Maybe thats why it took
them 100 years!
