1 SULKING SERVER
The ISP we use for despatching the Clergy/Leaders' Mail-list (CLM)
postings has allocated us a special server ('wendy') that will help
ensure a prompt and quick operation. Sorry to say, a few days ago,
wendy got the erroneous notion that she did not have sufficient
resources, got a fit of the sulks, and just didn't send many of the
separate messages out each day.
When we discovered what was (not) happening, a few well chosen
words from her master brightened her up considerably, and wendy
started despatching all those banked up messages.
So we apologise if you are one of the list members who were
affected by this and have now received several days' messages
belatedly, all at once. Wendy was the cuplrit.

2 SIMPSON RETIRING BUT WILL MAINTAIN PERSPECTIVE IN MINISTRY
Since October 1997, list members have benefited greatly from the
Ministry Perspective (MP) series contributed by Revd John Simpson,
judging by the consistent response to them received by CLM, and
John himself at .
John wrote recently, '(CLM) is a great service. I continue to be
surprised by the notes, comments and requests for advice which I
receive from around the world - very humbling and a reminder of how
far the network goes.'
As you may have noted in the byline to the MP series, in his day
job, John is General Superintendent of the Baptist Union of
Victoria. However, his distinguished ministry in that role draws to
a close this week, on 16 June. As he 'retires', we are sure you
would all want to join in praying God's blessing for John as he
enters a new phase of his ministry as the Lord's servant.
Now the good news is that John has offered to continue writing the
Ministry Perspective series for us all on CLM. (We have enough of
the MPs in reserve to see us through until he returns from Long
Service Leave.) Thankyou, Lord.

3 THREATENED GOSPEL BROADCASTS IN RUSSIA MULTIPLIED INSTEAD
Gospel broadcasts in Russia were threatened, but have become bigger
than ever. Trans World Radio had aired 45 minutes of daily
Christian programming to 40 million people on Radio-1, Russia's
largest privately owned network, but financial problems at Radio-1
forced the network to close May 9.
But a new deal with two other radio networks expands TWR's
influence. It allows TWR broadcasts to reach all of Russia and most
of Belarus, more than 150 million people, the ministry said. The
number of stations carrying TWR's programming will increase from
200 to 720. The Mayak network will broadcast 35 minutes of daily
programming, and the youth-oriented Yunost network will carry 15
minutes.
"The merciful hand of God answered our prayers," TWR's Russian/CIS
ministries director said. "Closing one door, God immediately opened
another -- a much bigger and more effective one." The broadcasts
are produced by TWR and Back to the Bible.

4 TROUBLE FOR THE HMONG IN LAOS
Since the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe and the USSR, the
ruling Communist Pathet Lao in Laos has been cracking down on all
dissent to maintain its totalitarian control. The Hmong people
fought with the Americans against the Communists in the 1960-70s
and have kept resisting over the last 25 years. They escalated
their guerrilla war recently and the Laotian army has called on the
Vietnamese military for assistance. The government blames the Hmong
for a recent series of terrorist bombings, and the scene is set for
a major onslaught against the nation's perceived enemies: the Hmong
and the Church.
Increasing persecution of the Church has been paralleled by its
phenomenal growth. Recently thousands of Hmong, living in the
mountains that span the north of Laos and Vietnam, have become
Christians through FEBC gospel radio broadcasts. Please pray for
persecuted believers caught up in the midst of all this strife, and
for Laotian Christians imprisoned for their faith.

5 FINALLY . . .
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen: not
only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
