Clergy/Leaders' Mail-list Bulletin Board No. 99-06 -- Sat 25 Sep 1999 Items: Service Alert Prayers for East Timor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Service Alert The PastorNet ISP will be upgrading facilities on Mon 27 and Wed 29 Sep 1999 for several hours after 12:00 AEST (02:00 UTC/GMT) each day. As a result, messages sent then may be delayed in transmission. The ISP apologises for any inconvenience that this may cause, and asks that we bear with them as they carry out these upgrades which should ensure that the network enjoys a smooth transition into the Year 2000. ------------------------------ PRAYERS FOR EAST TIMOR Almighty God, we humbly ask for your aid and protection for the forces serving in East Timor. Bless them in their peacemaking, and bring them safely home. Protect all members of the multinational force, aid workers and members of the United Nations, and through your love and mercy bring the peoples of Timor and Indonesia to live in peace with each other and with the world. We ask this in the name of the one who gave his life for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [Australian members of the list in particular - and others - could please include the following: FOR MEMBERS OF THE AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE Almighty God, we beseech you to extend your protection and support to those members of the Australian Defence Force who are serving in East Timor. Shield them from all evil; be their strength when they are set in the midst of many and great dangers; and help them to do their duty with wisdom and with fearlessness. Keep them under your protection, prosper their work in bringing peace and stability to that troubled land, and bring them home in safety. We ask this in the name of the one who gave his life for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Loving God, look with compassion on the families and loved ones, of those who serve in our armed forces. Give your blessing and support to all who await their safe return, and may their love and sacrifice give strong hope for lasting peace in our world. We ask this, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. ] FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE MULTINATIONAL FORCE Gracious God and Lord of All, whose son taught us that Peacemakers are blessed in your Kingdom; we thank you for those who have joined us in coming to the aid of the East Timorese people in this their hour of need. We pray that through the co-operation and common purpose of the multinational force in East Timor a lasting peace may be found. Watch over them with your love, and prosper them in their peacemaking, so that violence and oppression may cease, and justice may abound. We ask this in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. FOR AID WORKERS Lord our God, we pray to you for those who bring healing and wholeness into a world of sin and destruction. We pray for all who work in agencies of care, that those who seek to feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, clothe the naked and bring hope to those in despair may be blessed in all their work. May they perform their acts of mercy and compassion in safety, and may the time quickly come when their work is done, and the peoples of Timor can regain their homes, feed their children, and live in peace. We ask this through him who taught that what we do for the needy we do for Him, even Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. FOR THE PEOPLES OF TIMOR AND INDONESIA Almighty God, ruler of all, in whose kingdom peace and righteousness abound; we pray for the peoples of Timor and Indonesia, that at the end of this conflict they may live together in peace. Take away prejudice, cruelty and revenge. Grant that barriers which divide may crumble, suspicions disappear and hatreds cease, through Jesus Christ our mediator. Amen. Whilst attention in this situation is focussed on East Timor, the plight of East Timorese forcibly removed to West Timor and elsewhere in Indonesia is increasingly desperate. 2. At the request of the Australian Army authorities, the Bible Society in Australia is providing thousands of New Testaments for servicemen and others in East Timor.] ------------------------------ End of Clergy/Leaders' Mail-list Bulletin Board No. 99/06 ********************************************************* ____________________________ Clergy/Leaders' Mailing List (Moderated) This mailing list is open to all Christians via Internet e-mail.
