Item:

---------------------------------
Praying for the Persecuted Church
---------------------------------

We believe members of this CLM list would be potentially interested in
an e-mail list that is now distributing weekly concise, specific items
to encourage and help Christians to pray for fellow believers who
suffer for their faith. In addition to personal use, they can readily
be used in church bulletins and other publications.

The first message follows, and has appended to it a statement of the
purpose and background of the Religious Liberty Prayer List. To join
that list (free), e-mail hub@xc.org with subscribe rl-prayer
in the BODY of the message.

[Disclosure notice: Ron Clough, who moderates this CLM list, in an
unrelated capacity is moderator of the RL Prayer List.]

March for Jesus Remembers Persecuted Church
-------------------------------------------

The organisers estimate that 10 million Christians in 150 countries
will be part of the 1998 Global March for Jesus on Sat 30 May. Thank
God and pray that this witness will make a significant impact around
the world.

Please pray that:

* The plight of the Persecuted Church will be clearly presented and
faithfully received as the prayer focus for the March.

* The marchers will thank God for the liberty they have to express
their faith, and will remember their fellow believers who not only
lack such freedom but in fact suffer for their faith.

* Amidst all the proper joy and celebration of the March,
intercession for the persecuted will be with understanding as well
  as passion.

* Religious Liberty advocacy groups will be effective as they
  provide input for the occasion.

* 'Praying for the Persecuted Church' will not be just another
event, and that many marchers will commit themselves to persevere
in prayer for those who have to persevere in tribulation; that
they might link up with an advocacy ministry, this prayer list, or
the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

           Prayer List
----------------------------------------------------

This exists to help individuals and
groups pray specifically and regularly for religious liberty
issues and particularly to uphold the Church where it is
suffering persecution.

It is sponsored by the Religious Liberty Commission (RLC) of
World Evangelical Fellowship (WEF). The RLC serves as a co-
ordinating and networking team within the international
advocacy community on behalf of Christians persecuted for
their faith. Through the RLC, WEF has observer status at the
United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Research and
development are key elements in the functions of the RLC.

Exerting thus a vital presence, the RLC equips and assists
WEF regional and national alliances to deal with governments
in matters of religious liberty. As WEF represents 150
million Christians in 115 countries, it is both an effective
and influential global network.

is moderated and does not function as a
discussion list. However, subscribers are welcome to send
comments and enquiries to that address. Tell others that
they can join this list by sending an e-mail to
that says in the BODY of the message: subscribe rl-prayer

WEF RLC also operates a closed and moderated e-mail
conference for sharing information and background on the
state of religious liberty around the world, with more
detail than the RL Prayer notes can provide. Its focus is
for those with some specific involvement in the field, and
enquiries about subscribing may be sent to
 with full postal and phone/fax
details and church/agency affiliation.
