The most comprehensive information was from Peter Ballard, who advised that The author is NOT unknown! This is a modified version of a (supposedly true) story on the last page of "Out of the saltshaker" by Rebecca Manley Pippert (IVP 1979). [If you compare the emailed story with Pippert's, you will see that some parts are copied word-for-word, while someone has "enhanced" the story by calling the young man "John", and adding a comment by the preacher at the end.] > Use this in your church bulletin! Anyone putting the story in their church bulletin should acknowledge Pippert.
