![]() | Financial Crisis = Religious Crisis |
At this time much is being made of the 'financial crisis' being experienced by so many nations. Yet when I listen to the people in these places the word 'corruption' is most often raised as the root cause of their problems. I listen as Pakistan suggests a move to Shariah law would cure the problem and realise that the people are trying to find within their own culture and religion for the sin that has so marred their societies. This 'crisis' proves that education does not made the society. It is the educated elite that are the problem. Corruption is a matter of the heart and eventually the Moslim clerics will discover in despair that the very desire for cleanliness highlights sin as St Paul did centuries before. Will this crisis draw out the truth that democracy / rule by law / justice and tolerance can only exist in a society in which a signifigant number of people are Christ's and that it is the love of God shed abroard in our hearts that make life worthwhile for the rest? I think of the phrase Jesus used in another context " you are the salt of the world". What happens when the salt is thrown out?
