As an assistant pastor at Springfield Community Church (between Brisbane & Ipswich) I read your article and agree heartily. We opened in July last year bringing a church of the Baptist persuasion into an area already served by seven churches. Whilst the reformed churches were seemingly oblivious of our coming, three churches took it upon themselves to help us in any way they could; photocopying leaflets, letterbox dropping, providing musicians and generally helping wherever they could. These churches were AOG, Brethren and Presbyterian but you couldn’t tell that from their names. We are not ashamed of our denominations. It is just that we are Christian churches first and denominational second. We hold monthly prayer meetings together and a joint monthly celebration and worship. We lift the roof. I just wonder if the various evangelical denominations are not a mistake at all but part of God’s great plan to match apples with apples? We happily send people who want to publicly pray in tongues to the AOG church and they send us those who don’t. Those with Calvinist leanings go to the Pressies whilst the mild Arminianists come to us. It’s a great setup and works too well for it not to be of God. Yours in His great plan, Martin Gale ____________________________ Clergy/Leaders' Mailing List (Moderated) This mailing list is open to all Christians via Internet e-mail. Submissions welcome: |
