Here's a song that talks about God's will, and how all God has to do to make
something happen is say the word. Then Dave explores the "how can sin exist, if
God is in charge" question, and the wonderful answer God provided (hint: Jesus,
who has some words of His own in the 5th verse). You can hear a fairly complex
"urban hymn" arrangement on our album "Never Give Up" but this passionate
song works just as well with a simple acoustic backing.
By His will he made heaven and earth
He spoke a word, and creation came forth
He said "Let There Be Light"
And there was day and night.
By His will he made it so
By His will, he made women and men
In His likeness, perfectly formed
In a paradise home,
with a will of their own,
took the fruit and turned away
Mankind fled from God's holy will
Just to become slaves to death
From this so-called freedom
they could never rest
Nor could they save themselves
By God's will, the Word became man -
God spoke again, saying "This is my Son,
I love him, and
with him I am pleased,
He will do my will for me"
Jesus spoke, as the dark hour had come,
"Father please take this cup from your son,
Yet, not my own will. No,
let Your will be done."
His triumph paid in blood.
God's beloved, broken for me
Pierced & beaten, pinned to a tree
My God is this your will?
You would do this for me?
Is Your love so great indeed?
Your will, so humbling and pure.
How can my will compare with yours?
Now may Your kingdom come,
and may Your will be done
here on earth as in heaven.
