CHRISTMAS '97

Out of the heat, the dust, the flies
a glimmer of light lit up the skies.
Black eyes stared at the awesome sight
skin as dark as the blackest night.
Clad in nothing, nothing to lose
just a simple choice which way he should choose.
The rider came swiftly all dressed in white
"come," he said, "come see the sight!"
From the outback the calling came
it would be impossible for things to stay the same.
They journeyed from the north, south, east and west
driven along by this special quest.
They joined together, hands entwined
an ordained unity of the strangest kind.
Black and white, white and black
they joined each other on the dusty track.
They sang, they worshipped, they followed the Light
until there was dawn and no more night.
Out of the shadows prejudice did flee
'cause it saw the Light upon the Tree.
And, as the Son rose in the sky
God caught the tear in every eye.
They were ready and waiting, joined as one
ready to receive the chosen Son.
Around the Tree, pretty and bright
diffusion of colour became a miraculous sight.
There were no presents bought or sold
but a precious jewel, not silver or gold.
God sent His Gift, rich and rare
to encompass all souls everywhere.
