Leadership According to the Bible elders are to lead the church. Elders, who are nominated and elected by the congregation in keeping with the qualifications given in 1 Timothy 3 and other places, are responsible to God for the way they run the church. In the Geelong Christian Reformed Church the elders together with the pastor form the Church Council. The Church Council has the responsibility for everything that happens in the local church, though it is free to appoint committees to take on various tasks around the church.
