Past

In the early morning hours of New Year's day, 1904, G.P. Raud, the founder of the Mission, was on his knees in prayer as God challenged him to share the gospel of Christ far beyond the borders of his native Estonia. Although not much more than twenty years old, he readily accepted the challenge and began travelling abroad, preaching and sharing his burden for the spiritually dark countries of Europe. He encouraged believers to pray for the spread of the Gospel throughout the continent and sent out trained men and women to share Christ.

Because of the prayerful backing of committed believers and his own personal faith in God, G.P. Raud was able to meet the challenge God had set before him. He founded the European Christian Mission.

Present

Today the Mission is an international and interdenominational fellowship of evangelical believers, with workers from all walks of life called of God to serve in various ministries conducted around the world and especially in Europe.

Policies

It is our policy to co-operate in love and service, where possible, with all believers and evangelical churches. The Mission has an international Principles and Policies document setting out our Mission government and administration, basis of faith, membership and financial policy and is available to those seeking further information with a view to membership.

Purpose

The Mission is dedicated to the evangelisation of Europe, and for the salvation of souls. In Europe this two-fold purpose is realised through the encouragement and strengthening of evangelical churches throughout Europe and wherever the workers serve by Bible teaching and evangelistic ministry, and the establishing of New Testament evangelical churches in areas where there is inadequate or no Christian testimony.

In Australia the Mission serves the church by reaching out to New Settlers of every nationality through Scripture and literature distribution, ESL, visitation, Bible studies, ministry to seamen, open-air evangelism, rallies, radio, preaching, teaching and training programmes. We seek to bring effective help for the physical, social and spiritual well-being of every God given contact. To accomplish our purpose in such a wide area, we work in close co-operation with local churches and other organisations.

Prayer

The Mission was founded and sustained over the years by prayer. We believe that the ongoing ministry will only prove successful and fruitful in the salvation of souls and in the extension of Christ's kingdom by continued commitment to prayer. In each state of Australia there are monthly prayer meetings you may attend. Please inquire of the prayer group closest to you.

You may also receive our bimonthly ECM NEWS and Prayer Union free of charge so that you may be informed and enabled to stand with us in prayer and in a practical way.

Projects

ECM has projects from time to time to enable our workers to get on with the job. If you would like your church or group to be involved with one of the various current projects, please contact your nearest mission centre for information.

Apart from the ministries already stated, ECM is committed to an extensive ministry to Eastern Europe. Practical as well as spiritual help is provided in whatever way possible. Christian radio messages are beamed in from the ECM radio station in Italy.

Personnel

The purposes of the Mission are implemented by full-time workers. They are committed Christians who would normally have completed Bible College training and the ECM candidate course. Vacancies exist for personnel to plant and develop churches, work in evangelism through radio and literature ministries.

ECM also has opportunities for service as Associate and Short Term workers.

Partnership

While ECM is primarily a faith mission in that the workers trust the Lord for the provision of their needs, we also acknowledge that this support comes through God's people. The Mission therefore has a Partnership or Pledged Support scheme in operation.

By entering into a faith partnership with ECM you will be linked with a worker of your choice so you may trust the Lord together to direct, enable and provide for the work of evangelism in Europe and Australia.

As a faith partner you will commit yourself to pray for your missionary partner regularly and to support them financially. You may also wish to include the Mission in your will, by means of a bequest.

Participation

Now is your opportunity to respond to this challenging ministry conducted in Europe and Australia.
