Denise Shaw

Denise was encouraged from an early age in her art making. She has had no formal art training but this has not been a hindrance to the success she has achieved. Restrained from the pursuit of an art career, her working life was primarily in the field of infant teaching. Her first exhibition of paintings was held in her home town of Geelong in 1974. Three others took place in Sydney. She participated in a number of group showings throughout the seventies and eighties. The most significant of these has been the Blake Price Exhibition for Religious Art.

Denise was an artist instructor at the Ku-ring-gai Community Art Centre teaching painting in oils and acrylics, for over 6 years and was invited to tutor at World Education Fellowship Summer Schools and Camp Creative Summer Schools. She was president of the Ku-ring-gai Art Society and a frequent exhibitor in the Portrait G Award for women portrait painters.

In 1986 she became a born again Christian whose life underwent many changes. Her personal ambitions diminished and the need to paint pictures inspired by scripture grew.

In the nineties Denise was artist for Mission Publications of Australia at Lawson in th3 Blue Mountains, illustrating their Revised Sunday School Curriculum and has exhibited at the Griffith Gallery in Manuka.

Prior to moving to Queanbeyan NSW she painted and taught in her home studio at Springwood in the Blue Mountains.
