Patricia van den Nieuwenhuijzen I was born and raised in Adelaide. My mother introduced me to drawing and colouring when I was only 18 months old and discovered that I was a born artist. I am self taught and totally self inspired. All of my paintings are on canvas. I do not produce prototypes for any of my work, what you see are the only originals that exist. My favourite mediums are: acrylic, oils, pastels (both dry and oil), charcoal and ink. I love my brushes and my knives. I paint a variety of styles, including abstracts. I am predominantly a landscape artist, however I do produce abstracts and nude works. God’s creation is breath taking, where ever I look he amazes me with the beauty, despite this being a fallen world due to sin. My landscapes not only capture the land formation but more importantly they capture my emotions and impressions by means of colour and form. The human body is indeed a beautiful creation of God – I thank my beautiful husband for helping me to understand this. Both man and woman are magnificent to study and draw. My drawings have taught me that everyone is beautiful, and everyone has a most exquisite feature, whether it is their hand, eyes or shoulders. I have also learnt that there is no such thing as the perfect body, for every body is perfect in every way: tall or short, thin or voluptuous, muscles. I am passionate for the colour Blue. Blue is a colour that makes me very happy, it reminds me of beautiful days and tranquil nights. There are many shades of blue and I enjoy them all. The colour Blue also captures light like no other. I also love bright colours and certainly am not scared to use them. Red is red, blue is blue and yellow is yellow - all vibrant and alive. My works come complete with a story board, explaining how I was inspired to create the piece accompanied by a message. I am a professional practicing artist in the Canberra region, however I am also one of those most unusual people who is also gifted in the world of Mathematics. A professional lecturer at both the University of Canberra and the ANU College, my skills include teaching with enthusiasm and sense Algebra and Statistics. I am unable to separate space in art from space in Mathematics and so, I have found a unique way of bringing the two together by taking subtle advantage of geometry. Unlike other artists who try to bring geometry into their artwork, my work does not look like a pile of building blocks: you see what you are supposed to see and not blocks trying to give an impression of what the work is. I pray that the world will embrace my work and accept me as the untainted artist who paints from her heart.
