Russell McKane

Russell has been actively involved in the Christian Arts for over thirty years both as a practicing artist and Christian art educator. His journey started in 1976 as a proactive Christian at Riverina College where five Christian art students met together to promote Christ through their art practice. This included public seminars, poster campaigns, and public debates culminating in a group show – "Creations from Creation"

While undertaking a Theology degree in Melbourne Russell became a founding member of the A.R.T. group – Artists of Reformational Thinking. This group met for over 15 years and was influential in supporting young Christian artists and developing distinctively Christian art philosophy and practise. The ART group also held two group exhibitions in Melbourne.

Russell was also a member of the "Celebration Arts" movement in Melbourne and had a solo exhibition "Kingdom Spaces" at their South Bank exhibition venue. He has also had solo shows in Wagga and Alice Springs been involved in many community arts groups.

Russell’s art work includes Photography and Silversmithing but he is best known for his oil paintings, particularly his "Figure in Landscape" series. These tree paintings are metaphors of human existence, redeeming the ordinary and creating sacred moments distilled from engaging with God’s creation and opening himself to hearing God’s voice of revelation.
