History of this Church

The Beginning

On 2nd January 2000, Cathedral of Grace was birthed with fourteen people (adults and children) in attendance at its first Sunday service in the Jamison Hotel, 2 Bowman Street Macquarie.  Pastor Brian helped to lead the worship for the first two months.  Pastor Peter preached the Word of God and the first sermon was on the five-fold vision of the Church.  The first guest speaker was Albert Antoni, who was one of those who prophesied the establishment of a church in Jamison Hotel.  He preached on the vision of the Church similar to the first sermon preached.  The teaching topics covered during the first year were a series on the vision of the Church, "yetzer" – visualising in the Spirit, the love of God which is the theme of the Church as “an oasis of love,” praise and worship, faith and foundational Christian principles.  On Wednesday nights, Bible Studies on the book of Acts and the book of Revelation were completed during the first year.  Amy began her successful Sunday School ministry simultaneously.  This is to ensure we are a family church, catering for all age groups.

Continued Building

From the third month onwards, Grace Christian Fellowship through Seppo helped organised the praise and worship. By the end of the year, God had brought talented worship leaders, timbrel dancers, skilled musicians and singers enabling the church to take care of its own worship during the second year. The church has by that time added a drum set, electronic piano and a small sound system to its equipment for Sunday worship.

From about fourteen people in the first service, the church grew to about fifty-five to seventy regularly on Sunday by the middle of the year with attendances sometimes reaching 103 during the Guest Sunday.  Guest Sunday is the third Sunday of the month and Church members are encouraged to bring their friends and loved ones to Church.  Every month there were new people added to the church. There was always a stream of visitors to the church every month and some of them after prayer and seeking the Lord, decided to make the church their home

God's Provision

Financially, during the first half of the year, the church was run at a loss through donations as purchases had to be made for projection equipment, sound system, etc. to get the basic structure going. However, as the church grew, the church was able to support various training ministries and paid for the expenses of the catering for Guest Sunday and equipment.

Prophesies

After the church had started a few months, the knowledge that many prophecies had been spoken over Jamison Hotel – that a church would be birthed there – came to light. These prophecies have been collected together. It is encouraging to know that the existence of Cathedral of Grace had been prophesied long before the church started.
