The Taipei Commitment
Asia-Pacific Alliance Conference 1998
Academai Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan
We, the assembled delegates representing 11 national Alliance churches of the Christian and Missionary Alliance from the Asia-Pacific region:
- rejoice in our being able to meet again five years after the last gathering at Kinasih, Caringin, West Java in 1993;
- celebrate the rich mosaic of cultures represented here; and
- recognize that since the APAC 1993 conference little progress has been achieved in terms of the ideals expressed in the Caringin Declaration.
We therefore in humility and dependence upon God commit ourselves to:
- seek God's face in prayer and trust Him for spiritual revival within our constituencies;
- identify, nurture, equip and release godly leaders for the building of the church;
- expand and intensify our missionary outreach through synergistic, strategic and creative partnerships; and
- develop more effective and regular communication for information, motivation and prayer.
In view of these commitments we will:
- mobilize our congregations to extraordinary prayer and fasting to break down the strongholds of the enemy;
- engage in strategic planning;
- release the necessary resources of personnel, finances and information for our missionary advance in Asia and the world;
- co-ordinate our efforts in order to avoid duplication and to become better stewards of our resources;
- appoint a task force to implement these commitments and bring a progress report to the Regional meeting at the AD 2000 Quadrennial; and
- work towards the appointment of an APAC regional coordinator at the AD 2000 Quadrennial.
To this end, we appeal to all APAC constituencies to become actively involved to fulfill these commitments.
