WHAT WE BELIEVE - Bible References

Our beliefs are fundamental and evangelical - our sole textbook being the Bible, which is the only infallible and authorative word of God.

We believe there is only one God, the creator, eternally existing in three persons: God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God.

We believe in his virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death, bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father.

We believe in the second coming of Christ.

We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit, with his fruit and gifts abiding in the Church.

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit for all believers, with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the spirit gives utterance.

We believe in the spiritually lost condition of men.

We believe in the essential need for new birth by faith in Jesus Christ. That the only means for being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of christ.

We believe in the Sacraments of the Lord's supper, and baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for all believers.

We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whos indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Holy Life.

We believe in Diving Healing through personal faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and unsaved, the one to everlasting life, and other to eternal damnation.

In fact we can humbly say we believe all that Old and New Testaments teach and we ever seek to live a faithful, fruitful and fervent Christian Life.

OUR EMPHASIS
We emphasise a victorious spirit-filled life for all believers, teaching that a pentecostal experience is repeatable today in the life of the Christian Church.

OUR NAME
The name 'Assemblies of God' was the name given to all New Testament Churches. The word 'Church' is best translated 'Assembly', as in the Amplified version of the Bible.

FOUNDER
While Christians of our faith can be found all over the world, we are unable to attribute our movement to any christian leader. We owe our beginning to God alone. The Assemblies of God came into being at the turn of the century through a simultaneous spiritual awakening and Holy Ghost outpouring among many Holiness Groups in England, America and the Continent. Today the Assemblies of God has 25 Million members and adherents worldwide. Here in Australia there are around 100 000 and over 700 churches.

THE MIRACULOUS
The power of pentecost is an ever present reality and is the answer to the needs of the 20th Century church. It is tragically possible to have orthodox doctrines but to be cold and formal. The need of truth quickened with heavenly fire. In his "Plea for the Supernatural", Dr A.B. Simpson stirringly reminds us that we have a supernatural God, a supernatural Bible, a supernatural life, supernatural resources and a supernatural hope. The first church was born in Holy Spirit fire and in Holy Spirit fire it should continue. The assemblies of God worldwide seeks to make known these facts. We trust you, too, will find God's great and sufficient provision for your Body, Soul and Spirit.
