Melchisedec
By Tom & Angelina Price
We first meet the man in Gen.14: 18. There he meets Abraham on his return from his rescue of Lot. We are told that he was the king of "Salem", which today is called Jerusalem. "And Abraham gave unto this man a tenth of all the spoils.."
We turn to Hebrews. 7 to meet the man again and find out all about his person. We must stand amazed at the fullness and content of his introduction:-
Verse 1:- "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him".
Verse 2:- "To whom Abraham gave a tenth part of all, First being by interpretation, King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is King of Peace."
Here, we meet a man dwelling on earth, king of the city of Salem, who is also a priest of the Most High God. Of the flesh, he is the offspring of a man and woman, yet in manhood God has ordained him uniquely.
For, in his Priestly and Kingly function he is:-
Verse 3:- "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God: abides a priest continually".
Verse 4:- "Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the Patriarch Abraham gave the tenth (tithe) of the spoils".
(We must find out of whom this man is a type). As ever, a child may lead us, (no place for the mystic here. Who would attempt to explain this man as a Christophany?
We glance at Verse 13:- "For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another Tribe (not of Levi, who was as yet in the loins of Abraham).
Verse 5:- "They that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to "the law", that is of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham".
Verse 6:- "But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promise".
Verse 7:- "And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better".
"This man is greater than Abraham".
Let us turn to Revelation 1:6 and 5:10
Rev. 1:6:- "And hath made us (The Church) kings and priests unto God and His Father, to Him be Glory and dominion forever and ever – Amen.
Rev. 5:10:- "And hath made us (The Church) unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth".
How has The Lord Jesus Christ thus ordained The Church?
Rev. 1:5:- "Unto Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His Own Blood".
Hebrews 7:14:- "For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood".
Verse 15: "And yet, it is far more evident, for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest".
Verse 16:- "Who is made, not after law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life".
Verse 17:- "For He (God) testifieth, - Thou are a priest forever, after the order of Melchisedec".
."He – Christ, hath made us to be".
For every one Born again of The Holy Spirit is without father and without mother, without decent, having no beginning of days, nor end of life, but will abide a priest eternally (continually). Everyone unique, Foreknown of God in eternity – chosen and called.
In Melchisedec, Abraham met the fore ordained Church of Jesus Christ The Lord, made like unto Himself, His similitude and order and endless life.
(This is ever so brief). GLORY TO HIS NAME!
